The International Tiberias Sea of Galilee Marathon – January 8th, 2016

This will be the first Israeli marathon of 2016, which is fitting as it was the first marathon event in Israel, and has been running for 39 years. It is unique as it is the lowest full marathon in the world at 200 meters below sea level. The course goes along the shoreline of the Sea of Galilee through the Jordan Valley. The course is mostly flat and fast, making the marathon challenge slightly more endurable, and giving the opportunity for a new personal record.

The Ein Gedi Experience – Half Marathon and Masada Run – 6 February, 2016

The International Ein Gedi race brings in both local and international athletes. Its popularity can be explained by the incredible view, atmosphere and its altitude as the lowest place on earth. Other than the half marathon, there is also a ten kilometer and a two kilometer race. This year will mark the 33rd Ein Gedi Experience.

On the same day, the Masada run will take place which is a 2.5 kilometer run up a rocky, 300 meter ascent path, ending with 750 steep stone steps. This is no easy feat, to say the least.

Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon – February 26th, 2016

This event is expected to have 40,000 runners partake this year, and is one of Tel Aviv’s main projects to attract an international crowd. On top of the full marathon, this event offers a half marathon, a 10 kilometer, a five kilometer, a children’s mini marathon, as well as a 42 kilometer hand cycle for athletes with special needs. The course is unique and urban, as it goes down the Tel Aviv and Jaffa seashore, as well as the main streets of Tel Aviv. It is probably the gimmickiest race with an large sponsored exposition, and tons of running gadgets and accessories to get participants pumped up for the big event.
