Jazz enthusiasts can look forward to a rich jazz scene next time they are in Tel Aviv. Every year there are several jazz happenings and events, such as XJazz, the Tel Aviv Blues Festival, The Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, and many more. Tel Aviv, as a city, is much like jazz music: it can be chaotic and loud at times, quiet and soothing at others, but it always stays on beat. We have curated a list of the best live music venues to catch a jazz show, from north to south Tel Aviv.
Located in a pre-Bauhaus Italianate building and nested close to Shuk HaCarmel,Beit Haamudim is a trendy indoor/outdoor café and bar by day and has jazz howling down Nachlat Binyamin by night. Tucked away on the port of Tel Aviv, Shablul Jazz Club is the heart and soul of contemporary Israeli jazz. Live shows are held every night featuring the finest and most current local and international musicians. Reminiscent of a Chicago blues club, the sensual, cozy atmosphere, gourmet food and top notch wine, along with amazing sound quality and acoustics will make your evening at Shablul a special and memorable experience.
The beloved Levontin 7 is (literally) an underground venue that has two shows every night (60 shows a month) ranging from avant-garde, classical and modern jazz to indie, electronic, acoustic and other genres. The club was founded by three musicians whose focus lies heavily on jazz and classical genres. It is a place where people come to hang out, have a beer, and see a live show all in a comfortable and friendly ambiance. Upstairs is another bar with decent prices and a dangerously delicious vegan pizza parlor, Hatool Hayarok (The Green Cat) connected next door.
Marco and Sissi moved to Israel from Italy with the desire to bring Italian authenticity to the Tel Aviv gelato market. Not only does Arte Glidaria make and sell their own gelato, using their secret recipes that create the perfect balance between the ingredients for the perfect flavor, but they also link their art with other artists in the area. The trendy ice cream parlor hosts temporary exhibits of local artists – displaying their photos, drawings and paintings and invite different local musicians to play every week. Arte is the neighborhood spot for friends, strangers, and music lovers to come together, eat Italian gelato, and listen to good jazz every Thursday night on the cobblestones of Nachalat Binyamin. They have had the honor to host some outstanding musicians, well known in the Tel Aviv jazz scene, including Ari Roland on the contrabass, Yaala Ballin on vocals, Jess Koren on the saxophone and Gasper Bertoncelj on the drums.
The Zone, or Haezor, is a lively and homey venue that hosts some of the best jazz, African and Latin music Tel Aviv has to offer. Though there are big couches and tables surrounding the stage, friends often come and sit on the floor below the stage making you feel like you are hanging out in your buddy’s living room. Other nights, usually when big events take place, Haezor gets wild and crowded with dancing and partying. This unique venue will get your body moving and grooving leaving you with an unforgettable experience by the end of the night.
This tucked away wine bar, Par Derriere is a wonderfully romantic and intimate spot hidden in the heart of the city. What makes this place so special is the enchanting oasis, a warm and inviting garden behind the hectic streets of Tel Aviv. Par Derriere hosts live music shows in their lounge area, mainly jazz and bossa nova. Their menu offers a variety of rich and impressive wines, both international and Israeli. In addition, their cuisine is based on fresh produce and other foods they purchase at Shuk HaCarmel, just a block away, such as their arugula salad, cheese assortments, breads, blue cheese and prunes. Par Derriere is just the place for a romantic and upscale evening out.
Rothschild 12 is one of the more popular bars of Tel Aviv known for its daily performances of various artists, delicious food and drinks as well as an overall elegant yet laid back atmosphere and amazing location.
