London’s famous auction house, Christie’s, presents work depicting iconic ski resorts from some of the most sought-after poster artists.
This beautiful selection showcases spectacular scenery from Switzerland, Norway, Germany and the United States, with all the action, glamour and panache of the slopes. The estimated value of the posters on sale starts at around £1,200, with some pieces expected to reach £30,000.
Among the work included is a ski poster design by Martin Peikert, never offered up at auction before at Christie’s, advertising the Swiss resort of Les Diablerets. The design – typical of Peikert’s bold style – features a glamorous couple ascending the mountain on a ski lift. Following the record price achieved at Christie’s in January 2016 for a rare poster of Gstaad by the Swiss graphic artist Alex Walter Diggelmann – a lithograph dating back to 1934 – the upcoming auction will present a larger version of Diggelmann’s design, with a pre-sale estimate of £20,000-£30,000.
The posters section of the auction will be on view at Christie’s South Kensington from December 19–23, 2016 to January 6–11, 2017, alongside the Interiors sale.
