From August 15—22, Londoners and visitors to the capital will be able to hang out in one of London’s classiest Mayfair hotels, Claridge’s. The hotel’s stonkingly luxurious Art-Deco bar will get a 19th-century Irish pub-style makeover, which will take the form of gourmet pub-like banquets, bar stools (yes, bar stools in Claridge’s – tell all your friends) and ragtime music playing out from the divine piano.
Once you are all settled in, chill out, relax and fall in love with the Dead Rabbit’s comic book style cocktail menu – it not only gets your alcohol buds flowing, but also tells you the rather epic story of John Morrissey, leader of the Irish street gang who monopolised 1850s lower Manhattan. Why is this relevant, you ask. The bar is named after him, so it’s only natural they’d want to give you a little bit of a back story whilst you’re on the piddle.
So, what can you have? First thing’s first. The stolly is off the menu, so there’s no need to feel out of place or intimidated by the grand Instagram-worthy surroundings. The pop-up will splash out Irish coffee, all sorts of whiskey from their private collection and plenty of signature cocktails – our favourite so far is the Psycho Killer (it’s just been one of those days).
Oh, and let’s not forget the food. Oh the food! Hearty classics like Cumberland sausage rolls and shepherd’s pie will take centre stage, but lobster devilled eggs will also be making an appearance. Darlings, it’s Claridge’s, what did you expect? And if you like a good old fashioned roast dinner, go on the 20th for a rather exceptional and top-secret twist.
The Dead Rabbit takeover is open at Claridge’s from 15–22 August.
