The Best Rooftop Bars In East London

Picture of Kelsey Traynor
Updated: 9 February 2017
In a concrete jungle like London, sunny days have everyone desperately searching for a rooftop to soak up some Vitamin D. Thankfully, today there are more rooftops than ever, and all offer a variety of activities. Whether you are looking for somewhere to enjoy a sunny afternoon or a balmy summer evening, The Culture Trip London has discovered the best spots in the east of the city.

Boundary

Boundary is a glamorous rooftop bar and restaurant that sits on top of a converted Victorian warehouse by Shoreditch High Street. Providing 360° views of the city, there are olive and bay trees that create a relaxed Mediterranean setting, taking you away from the bustling East London streets. Although on the pricier side, this is a sophisticated spot to enjoy delicious food and a few glasses of wine, day or night.

Old Fountain

Hidden by the side of Old Street, you may not even notice that this pub has a rooftop. Decked with flowers and picnic furniture, you feel as though you are in an elevated garden. A traditional pub, offering craft beer and a food menu ranging from salads to steak and burgers, this is a perfect location for a casual afternoon or evening with friends.

More than just another rooftop bar, Netil360 offers free and bookable work desks, film showings, and food pop-ups as well as yoga sessions, brunch events, and talks in the evening. Combining fun things to do with stunning views makes this a must-visit for the summer.

Bird of Smithfield

Aperol has taken over this quaint rooftop bar this summer to create the Aperol Spritz Terrazza. Partnering with various lifestyle brands, they are also offering eight after-work events with Forza Win, Print Club London, Soho Radio, and The School of Life. Take a seat, sip on an Aperol Spritz and learn how to make your own aperitivo – the perfect Italian-inspired evening.

Not just another rooftop bar, The Culpeper uses this space to grow vegetables that are used in its kitchen. The cute greenhouse even doubles as a bar, offering delicious cocktails infused with herbs from the garden. As if cocktails and delicious food weren’t enough, they have launched an astronomy club this summer so you can stargaze from the rooftop.
