The Best London Tech Events and Festivals to Attend

Updated: 8 January 2018
If you Google ‘Tech Festival’, there’s a good chance you might be chaperoned towards techno music. However, as we are increasingly led to believe, tech is the new rock and roll. Event organisers have become savvy to its potential and, as with anything, London hosts some of the best of these events. Here are some of our favourites coming up in 2018.

London Tech Week | June 11-17, 2018

Having cemented its reputation very near the top of the technology pecking order, London’s flagship tech event is London Tech Week. In 2018, between 11th and 17th June, over 300 events will attract around 60,000 visitors keen to learn and network with likeminded tech enthusiasts. Events for 2018 already earmarked are summits on AI and the Future of Work, ideal topics for those of us with a healthy addiction to Black Mirror.

Afrotech Fest | January 26-27, 2018

This is a two-day tech event which seeks to be unique not for what is on show, but for who is included. Afrotech Fest is open to anyone to attend, but all panels and speakers will be of black African and Caribbean heritage. Alongside talks, workshops and social events, Afrotech Fest has its own special Youth Programme for the benefit of those looking to break into what can seem to be a relatively exclusive industry.

Virtual Reality Show | April 5-8, 2018

Would you go to an immersive art gallery, a virtual nightclub or even a ‘Vocktail Bar’, whatever that is? If you are even slightly curious, consider pencilling the Virtual Reality Show into your diaries. Hosted at the Business Design Centre in Islington, this three-day show is highly immersive and invites visitors to try a whole host of virtual, mixed and augmented reality in their various exciting applications. Ticket prices are very reasonable too, with a one-day pass costing just £22.

AI Expo Global | April 18-19, 2018

If you have spent the past year or so scratching your head over phrases such as ‘natural language processing’ and ‘deep learning’ or you have always wondered what chatbots like to do in their time off, AI Expo Global might be for you. To attend the exhibition space is free and over the course of two days the event will explore artificial intelligence for businesses, developers and consumers alike.

London Games Festival | April 5-15, 2018

This festival has a simple, but bold ambition: to make London the gaming capital of the world. The London Games Festival is working in collaboration with the Mayor of London on this third instalment of a city-wide event which welcomed 50,000 visitors in 2017. Included in the schedule is EGX Rezzed (we don’t understand the name either), the UK’s largest video game showcase.

BETT 2018 | January 24-27, 2018

Another completely free event, BETT is really keen you learn something when you visit. As the world’s leading education technology (read: EdTech) show, BETT gives the public access to the newest and coolest ways to teach and learn. Growing year on year since its launch in 2014, BETT plans to fill ExCeL London for years to come. They’ve even got Bob Geldof speaking this year…

Techday | Date TBC

The people over at Techday pride themselves on hosting the largest startup events in the world and London is in crosshairs for 2018. The previous editions in New York and LA have been hits, and as well as exhibiting the best local start-ups, Techday hopes to serve as a great networking opportunity for anyone interested in the industry.
