The Best Italian Restaurants in Camden

Picture of Christina Dean
Updated: 8 August 2017
Warm, cheese-laden pizzas, creamy and filling spaghetti, juicy tomato salads… There’s nothing quite like the food of Italy. If you’re on the hunt for authentic Italian food made using top quality produce and served with that famous Mediterranean hospitality, head to one of these top Camden restaurants.

Casa Tua

Casa Tua is the kind of place that makes you feel just as welcome whether you’re dropping in for a coffee or staying for dinner and drinks – the name does translate to ‘your home’ after all. On top of that fantastic Italian hospitality, Casa Tua also celebrates the best of Italian produce, particularly from Puglia and the south. That means you can tuck into dishes like guazzetto di mare (seafood in a spicy red bisque) and strozzapeti alla Pugliese (fresh pasta with broccoli purée and tarallo), with lots of regional Italian wine.

With produce in the window and bottles of wine on display all around the restaurant, you can tell that the team at Domo 94 take great pride in the quality of their ingredients. The menu rotates dishes from many different Italian regions, like maltagliati Genovese and filetto tartufato, alongside the classics and that’s on top of their extensive pizza offering. There are around twenty varieties, including a good handful of white ones too.

Goodfare Restaurant

There’s no mistaking Goodfare for anything other than an Italian restaurant, as you’ll see red and green chairs sat around tables outside and a chef stretching pizza dough behind the counter. The place is rustic but welcoming and the menu is packed with comforting Italian favourites. Alongside pizzas and pastas (including a delicious black spaghetti with porcini, truffle and green pesto), there’s also a selection of fish and grilled dishes.

Locanda Canton is a family-run joint and proper homemade Italian food is precisely what you get here. The menu is packed with traditional dishes from burrata and Parma ham to spaghetti cacio e pepe to pork shin braised in Barolo. If you’re after something really special (and are able to plan in advance) you can reserve the Florentine steak, which is big enough to feed a group.

La Collina

Restaurant, Italian, $$$
Save to wishlist

Set back in Primrose Hill away from central Camden, La Collina‘s blend of modern and traditional Italian food has made it a real hit with locals. The menu is concise – no reams and reams of pasta dishes – because seasonality and simplicity is the priority here. There’s still space for regional specialities though, like chicken Milanese and Sardinian pasta. The best way to eat at La Collina, if the weather allows, is on the outdoor terrace with a glass of Italian wine.

La Porchetta

Restaurant, Italian, $$$
Save to wishlist

Since the doors to their first site opened back 1990, La Porchetta has grown into a five-strong chain that serves up fresh and rustic Italian fare. As with the other locations, pastas and pizzas form the backbone of the menu. From carbonara to vongole, the pastas are all pretty classic and the pizza dough is made daily in-house and hand stretched to order. La Porchetta offers both options gluten-free too.

Anima e Cuore

Restaurant, Italian, $$$
Save to wishlist

Up towards Kentish Town, it’s very easy to walk straight past Anima e Cuore thanks to its unassuming exterior. It may look like a simple café but it’s actually home to some very talented chefs producing unbelievable food. Plus, it’s BYOB so it won’t cost a bomb either. The menu changes regularly with different specials on each day, meaning you could be faced with anything from tuna tartare with cucumber sorbet, to ox cheek on polenta, to ravioli with duck ragu. The gelato is also homemade so save room for dessert. Unfortunately Anima e Cuore is both very small and very popular, so be sure to book well in advance!

Dinner that looks like an acid trip and tastes like Italy 🐙 🇮🇹 😎
