Everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Lady Gaga has played within the legendary circular walls of the Roundhouse in London. Get ready for your own private after-party at one of the best neighbouring hotels in Chalk Farm, Camden and beyond, bookable on Culture Trip.

The roll call of musicians who’ve played within the Roundhouse reads like a Who’s Who of rock royalty. Once a turntable railway engine shed, it was transformed into one of London’s leading performing arts and music venues in 1964. From King’s Cross to Marylebone, we’ve hand-selected the best places to stay nearby after you’ve raved the night away.

1. Camden Enterprise Hotel

Quite literally a stone’s throw from the Roundhouse, you could almost watch the gigs through your bedroom window. Previously a gig venue itself, the Enterprise Hotel hosted the likes of Amy Winehouse and James Blake in its day. Now, this handsome Victorian building offers 21 elegant rooms arranged over three floors. It’s the perfect location to walk to sites such as London Zoo, Primrose Hill and Regent’s Canal – when you’re not moshing the nights away, that is.

This smart townhouse sits comfortably in the heart of the elegant, fashionable district of Marylebone. Moments from both Regent’s Park and Hyde Park, the hotel offers you both the buzz of the city and the quietude of these vast green spaces. Baker Street is a short walk away for Sherlock Holmes fans who want to visit the iconic detective’s home at 221B, and Madame Tussauds, one of the capital’s most popular tourist attractions, is within a 10-minute stroll.

4. The Fitzrovia Belle

Traditionally a proper community London pub, the Fitzrovia Belle now offers five well-appointed boutique rooms in addition to good pub grub on Tottenham Court Road. Sports fans, rejoice – there are several large screens for watching live national and international sporting events. The pub-cum-hotel is less than 1mi (1.6km) from the British Museum and a 10-minute Underground ride to the Roundhouse.

Sherlock fans, head’s up. Holmes Hotel is located just around the corner from Baker Street where Arthur Conan Doyle’s character lived. You can’t miss the literary motifs inside – from the bowler hat murals to Piggy Doyle’s Gym (supposedly the author’s unlikely nickname). It’s a pleasant 40-minute walk through Regent’s Park to the Roundhouse, so you’ve plenty of time for one of the hotel’s signature cocktails before you venture out.

6. The Megaro Hotel

With designer rooms and suites with names like Groove Britannia, you quickly get the gist of the creative style at this fiercely independent hotel. Smiley face cushions and busts of former prime ministers with mohicans nod to Camden’s punk rock heritage mixed with the Acid House scene of King’s Cross. Situated opposite King’s Cross station, you can take the Northern Line to the Roundhouse in 12 minutes.

7. Pullman London St Pancras

Contemporary, stylish and cosmopolitan, the Pullman is a 312-room hotel centrally situated opposite one of the city’s main stations. The hotel’s fully equipped gym is open all hours and offers great views over the Victorian Gothic majesty of St Pancras across the road. Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard in King’s Cross are a short walk away, and all of Camden’s chaotic, colourful glory is just up the road.

8. The Standard

Standing proud in all its Brutalist splendour, the Standard is housed in the former Camden Town Hall Annex, opposite St Pancras station. Choose a terraced suite with an outdoor bathtub. For dinner, step into the bright red pill-shaped elevator – it will whisk you up the exterior of the building to Decimo, a Spanish-Mexican fusion restaurant run by Michelin-star chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias. Enjoy glorious 360-degree views of London whilst tucking into gambas rojas (prepared with garlic) and mezcal cocktails.
