The Best Greek Restaurants in Soho

Picture of Christina Dean
Updated: 21 September 2017
From a stylish take on Athenian street food, to a restaurant chain that’s had a helping hand from a television chef, these are the best Greek restaurants in Soho.

The Life Goddess

Cafe, Restaurant, Greek, none

Sister to the Bloomsbury café and deli of the same name, The Life Goddess in Carnaby’s Kingly Court is all about celebrating the best produce Greece has to offer. The menu is larger here as it’s more of a restaurant space with both traditional dishes – pork fillet in mavrodaphne, octopus with fava, moussaka – and Greek twists on things like burgers, hot dogs and risotto, and you can also mix and match with small plates. If you’ve never had Greek wine before, this is a good place to start, as not only does the list contain some interesting bottles, you can get many by the glass.

Sunday lunch. yummy!

The Real Greek - Soho

Restaurant, Greek, none

The Real Greek may be a chain but each site has cultivated its own character – the Berwick Street branch for instance, hosts live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. The quality of the food here also goes beyond expectations; TV chef Tonia Buxton has had a hand in the menu development and the extra effort is noticeable. In typical Greek fashion, everything is designed to be shared, from houmous, to dolmades and chicken skewers and to lamb cutlets.

Suvlaki

Restaurant, Greek, $$$

The namesake suvlaki is the centrepiece at this stylish, Athenian inspired restaurant, which has recently been joined by a sister site in Shoreditch. It may be a popular street food, but that hasn’t stopped the Suvlaki team from sourcing quality meat, like Gloucester Old Spot pork and Scottish Texel lamb for the skewers and wraps. There’s much to enjoy from the rest of the menu too, especially from the small plates section, all of which goes excellently with one of their Greek craft beers.

Mediterranean Cafe

Rather than being an exclusively Greek establishment, this longstanding, family run café serves a mixture of Greek, Turkish, Italian and French food, so you’ll see the likes of kleftiko, iskender chicken, pasta and mussels in white wine all sharing space on the menu. Everything is freshly made with produce brought from nearby London markets. The inside is covered in theatre posters and by evening candlelight, which only adds to the atmosphere.
