may not be overrun with Greek
restaurants but if you’re after casual and comforting food, you’ll certainly find it here.
The Real Greek Covent Garden
Restaurant, Bakery, Greek, $$$
Given that their motto is ‘Eat Together’ it’s not surprising that the food at The Real Greek is all designed for sharing. If you can’t narrow it down from the main mezze section, the set menus are worth a look, especially the Filoxenia menu as chosen by My Greek Kitchen chef Tonia Buxton. Though one of chain, the Covent Garden branch of The Real Greek
can accommodate more celebratory meals thanks to their downstairs private room.
The Real Greek St Martin's Lane
Restaurant, Greek, $$$
This branch of The Real Greek
is an ideal spot for a pre-theatre bite – the souvlaki wraps, filled with everything from halloumi to lamb kefte to loukaniko sausage, or the Athenian set mezze, which includes flatbread, dips, skewers, meatballs and dolmades, are perfect if you’re short on time. If you’re not in a hurry though, finish off your meal the authentic way with a strong Greek coffee.
The Covent Garden Kafeneo
Cafe, Greek, European, $$$
This casual café
close to the Royal Opera House puts a Greek spin on fast, filling and cheap food, so as well as your typical salads and sandwiches you can also pick up a Greek salad, a lounza and halloumi panini or a houmous, feta and avocado wrap with hot comfort food like moussaka and stuffed peppers also on offer.
