While it’s easy to come to the UK capital and stay in Central London, there are plenty of other vibrant places that can give visitors a more authentic insight into what it’s like to live this great city. South London is home to the cultural hub of Brixton, Britain’s busiest train station, Clapham Junction; and, as of 2017, Tooting is one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world according to Lonely Planet. Here are some of the best Airbnbs on offer for anyone looking to stay in this dynamic part of London.

Creative Unique Eco Paradise

Take a step back from modern life and embrace the customs of simpler times at Pandora’s Creative Unique Eco Paradise, which can accommodate up to two guests. This atavistic two-bed, one-bath, two-bedroom dwelling includes a yurt and an eco house, which sit amongst a garden of bamboos, wild flowers and a sweet chestnut grove. Despite its delightful appreciation of the little things in life, it does come with some luxuries including a fire a pit and a Game of Thrones-style bed. Oh, there’s also a hot tub, which might just help ease the transition into using a compost toilet.

Docklands House on the River

Anyone looking for stunning views should definitely consider Mikail’s Docklands House on the River, which is straddled on two sides by the River Thames. As many as nine guests can hire four double rooms and one single room in the incredible 4000 sq. ft., nine-bedroom house. Incredible views across the river, towards Cutty Sark, can be enjoyed from the large lounge, kitchen and dining room. The house is family friendly, has its own private drive and is just two minutes from Island Gardens station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR).

Designer Lambeth Loft, Sleeps One to Four

Just a five-minute walk from Streatham station, Dan’s Designer Lambeth Loft, Sleeps One to Four retains some of its original features, despite a recent refurbishment. New wooden floors and zoned mood lights contribute a trendy designer feel to the place, which is also littered with an assortment of props from the world famous Globe Theatre. Nearby Tooting Bec Common is ideal for those sunny park days, while swimmers can take a refreshing splash in the Tooting Bec Lido without even leaving the park. The open plan, one-bath property can accommodate up to four guests. Two sofa beds are available in the common areas, while the bedroom has a double bed. Meanwhile, the kitchen is fitted with modern conveniences like a dishwasher and coffee machine.

Travellers arriving via Gatwick airport will struggle to find anywhere as well placed as Pandora’s Beautiful Loft Space in a Fabulous Location, which is just a five-minute walk from Clapham Junction train station. Residing in a converted Victorian warehouse that could appear to have been plucked right out of Shoreditch, this three-bed, two-bath, one-bedroom property can accommodate up to four guests. Plant life is aplenty here, with a secret garden entrance and an alleyway garden that was featured in Gardens Illustrated; there are banana plants, palm trees and flowering ginger plants – you really feel like you could be anywhere in the world. Breakfast is provided and, weather-permitting, can be enjoyed on a Morrocan-style roof deck adorned with olive trees, swaying grasses and silver willows.

Brixton En Suite Loft Conversion, With Kitchenette

Breakfast is provided at Ryan’s family-friendly Brixton En Suite Loft Conversion, With Kitchenette, which is a self-contained loft extension that sits atop a Victorian terraced house. Original features including exposed ply walls, bare plaster and steal beams have been retained. A large glass roof light and wall-to-wall windows welcome plenty of natural light into the property, while recessed led strip lights, reclaimed mining lamps and bulkhead lights dazzlingly illuminate the place after dark. Guests should be aware that the property is accessible via the host’s house below and that resident furry friends include a cat and a dog. The one-bed, one-bath, one-bedroom loft space can accommodate up to two guests and is situated in a leafy residential street just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of Brixton’s bars and cafés.
