We speak to the director of the Tomb Raider reboot and find out why Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft is definitely a Londoner.

Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug is the man tasked with not just rebooting a popular film franchise, but also in delivering a hit video game adaptation.

Speaking to the The Wave (2015) director recently, we found out about the specific challenges of such a project and how he approached it all. The reboot stars Alicia Vikander, who takes over from the previous keeper of the iconic combat boots and grubby vest, Angelina Jolie. The first act is set predominantly in London, and Uthaug explains how the setting was crucial to establishing the central character.

We also found out how difficult it can be to film in the capital, with the rest of the film being shot in various locations across South Africa.
