The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released an official birthday portrait of their son, Prince George, to celebrate his fourth birthday.

Taken at the end of June by Getty Images’ royal photographer Chris Jackson, the young royal beams in one of the most adorable photos released by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to date.

In an official statement released on the Kensington Palace Instagram page, the four-year-old’s parents said that they are ‘delighted’ to share the portrait with the world to mark his special day.

They also added they ‘would like to thank everyone for all of the kind messages they have received.’

On photographing the young prince, Jackson said: ‘He is such a happy little boy and certainly injects some fun into a photoshoot!’

In the run up to his birthday, the Prince went on a tour of Germany and Poland with his parents, and sister, Princess Charlotte.

Born at St Mary’s Hospital, Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge (a very regal name, we might add), was born at 4.24pm on July 22, 2013, weighing 8lbs 6oz.

Due to start school this September, his mother, Catherine, has said of the Prince in several television interviews, that he is a ‘noisy’ but a ‘really love little boy’, and hopes his behaviour will keep his ‘feisty’ younger sister Princess Charlotte in check.

A great-grandchild of Her Majesty, the Queen, Prince George is third in line to inherit the throne and is expected to be the 43rd British monarch to be crowned since William the Conqueror.

And if you’ve got a spot for British humour, the Queen’s fake tweets perfectly sum it up!
