The Iberica restaurant group has already made a name for itself for having some of the finest Spanish food in town. Now in the height of Summer, they are bringing their al fresco dining to their terrace in Canary Wharf, London.
Now that we are well into summer with brighter, sunnier and warmer days, Ibérica is bringing authentic Spanish al fresco dining to London with its La Terraza. It is a Mediterranean haven set in the heart of Canary Wharf, secluded from the concrete, corporate life in the verdant corner of Cabot square. Modeled on the outdoor restaurants commonly found in Spain, their green terrace is adorned with striped parasols, gravel floors and fairy lights hung around leafy trees. The atmosphere is also refined with sounds of gushing fountains, Latin music and Spanish waiters.
Ibérica has already made a name for itself in London for serving some of the finest Spanish food in town. Executive Chef Nacho Manzano, with three Michelin-stars behind his name, in just a few years has expanded his group of restaurants to three in London, one in Manchester, and now plans to open in Glasgow. The restaurant has a strong focus on premium cured meats and cheeses, which have a section to themselves on the menu and also reappear in a mixture of traditional and reimagined tapas options.
Their terrace is dedicated to small bites which guests pick and share. There are still the familiar and exquisite jamon, manchego and gambas al ajillo, but there are also a series of creative pinchos – a Northern Spain specialty of small pieces of bread with toppings. Ranging from £2 to £3.50, the little savory bites include the parsley bread with fried squid where the bread is soft and fragrant with herbs, topped with a thin spread of pungent garlic mayonnaise and a crisp whole baby squid that’s sweet and tender; the Butifarra burger with a rich fatty sausage meat balanced out by the sharp pickled fennel and mustard; the mellow Russian potato salad on a crisp olive oil biscuit drizzled with a sweet confit pepper sauce and a piquant pickled Piparra pepper.
These delicious treats are complemented by a selection of refreshing cocktails and sangrias, which include red wine-, white wine-, cava- and beer-based. All light and generously laden with fruit, these drinks are as summery as it gets.
Open from brunch to dinner, Ibérica’s La Terraza is a perfect getaway in London. When Spain is all too far and expensive, this reasonably priced Mediterranean oasis can be enjoyed in the heart of London with authentic food and atmosphere.
