After tremendous success from Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland – the first full-length ballet since 1995 – Christopher Wheeldon has taken Shakespeare’s late great romance The Winter’s Tale, bringing it to life with The Royal Ballet. This three-act ballet adaptation will see a king who is overcome with jealousy, believing his childhood friend has had an affair with his wife, ordering his baby, Perdita, be abandoned. However, after the death of his wife and young son, he is overcome with great remorse for what he could have had – a daughter and a family. Although Perdita was raised by a shepherd, and falls in love with someone close to the king, a great miracle happens and all are reunited. With jealousy, abandonment, hopeless love, loss and reconciliation being a part of every great Shakespeare story, and music accompanied by Joby Talbot, this emotionally powerful adaptation is one not to miss.
