Get ready for a musical like you’ve never seen! The team behind the incredibly successful musical Maltida are back to bring you Groundhog Day. Based on the 1993 contemporary comedic classic starring Bill Murray, the story follows Pittsburgh TV weatherman Phil Connors covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania but finds himself caught in a time loop, forcing him to relive the same day again and again. Music and lyrics will be provided by comedian and composer Tim Minchin, choreography by Peter Darling and designed by Rob Howell, who all worked together on Matilda. The choice of play comes under newly appointed artistic director at the Old Vic, Matthew Marchus, whose new tenure focuses on ‘something for everyone’, reflected in his productions of Dr Seuss’s The Lorax and Ibsen’s The Master Builder. With credentials like these, we can be sure that Groundhog Day will definitely feel at home and be greeted with as much critical acclaim. Get ready for a musical like you’ve never seen!
