If you’re unfamiliar with the event, in the New York Pizza Run, athletes are rewarded with a slice of delicious pizza at checkpoints for every kilometre they reach.
This year, the innovative stateside phenomenon is coming across the pond to six cities in the UK; Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Bristol and the capital itself. The UK event however has a slightly different twist. Instead of having pizza checkpoints, participants will start the race off with two slices of pizza to consume whenever they feel appropriate – (so you can even save them till the end if you’re worried about getting indigestion).
The event will be the first of its kind in Europe and organisers have set a provisional date as Sunday 20th May 2018. While an exact location has not been confirmed, rumours suggest the starting line will take place at Battersea Park. With new joints popping up every week, it’s clear Londoners love pizza, so there’s no doubt the event will be well-received in the city – especially by those who are motivated by carbs.
If you’re keen to take part in London’s ultimate pizza party, the event costs just £20, and considering the free pizza you can sink your teeth into, it’s well worth the dosh. Plus, ticket prices include access to an afterparty as well as a Pizza Run UK finishers medal so you can keep a memento of your wild day out. There’s also a prizes up for grabs for best finishers and best fancy dress costume; so if you’ve got an inflatable pizza costume lying around – put it to good use at this unique event. So whatever your athletic ability, check out this unique event that celebrates all things pizza.
