To celebrate Australia Day (January 26) Bonny Porter, founder of Balls & Company in Soho, is hosting a ripper line-up of Aussie chefs for a one-off celebration dinner. We went to see her for a sneak peak of the menu and to find out more about Aussie food and Aussie chefs in the UK, as well as discovering how she got into cooking in the first place.

First up was Vegemite and cheddar churros, followed by a fresh salad of beetroot and avocado, while for dessert, Bonnie made her take on the Tim Tam slam, complete with a cup of Milo. If you’ve not heard of Bonny before, she came to the UK after appearing on Australia’s version of Masterchef: The Professionals.

Joining Bonny on January 26 will be Sydney-born Matt Robinson, Executive Chef of Dickie Fitz, Fitzrovia’s very own taste of the Pacific, and Andrew Bredon (Bredo) head honcho at Bel-Air, the home of feel good fast food who grew up in Adelaide on a diet of sun, sea and surf. They’ll also be at the pass, adding their own dishes to Bonny’s.

“We have such a talented bunch of Aussie chefs in London and I’ve wanted to get everyone together for a while – Australia Day seemed like the perfect opportunity to showcase the Australian way of cooking. This will be an unmistakably true blue feast with all of our favourite national delicacies,” said Bonny.
