Established in 1996 by the Photographer’s Gallery, the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize is an annual prize that has been in partnership with the Deutsche Börse Group since 2005. It rewards a living photographer, of any nationality, for a specific body of work in an exhibition or a publication format that is felt to have significantly contributed to photography in Europe, within the last year. The four shortlisted artists for 2016 are Laura El-Tantawy, Erik Kessels, Trevor Paglen and Tobias Zielony. The work of these four nominees address some of the most urgent political and social issues of our time. All the subjects are of great consequence and relevance. The shortlisted photographer’s work will be exhibited at The Photographer’s Gallery, and the winner will be announced during the exhibition run at a special award ceremony in May, and further presented with the £30,000 prize. Explore photography, once again, engaging with the real world in new and surprising ways.
