There are two parts to New Designers – Part 1 runs from June 28 to July 1 and is ideal for fashionistas as it covers textiles, jewellery and contemporary design crafts, while furniture fanatics and graphic geeks will want to head to Part 2, which runs from July 5 to July 8.
Held within London’s Business Design Centre, the exhibition will showcase the works of 3,000 graduate designers from the UK’s top institutions, plus if you’re a fan of BBC Two’s The Great Pottery Throw Down, don’t miss the opening on June 28, as it will be event will be launched by famous ceramicist Keith Brymer Jones.
A fun programme of talks will run throughout the event, which will offer inspiring ideas and practical sessions that will appeal to both budding creatives and design lovers. Get a sneak peek into next season’s hottest decorating trends with Dulux’s colour forecasting masterclass, hear how design is improving lives with a discussion led by the Design Council, or learn top tips from leading design journalists including Katrina Burroughs of The Sunday Times, and Sue Herdman.
Pop by after work for ‘Thursday Lates’, where you’ll be able to sit down and listen to fascinating panel discussions, while also sipping drinks provided by Peroni Nastro Azzurro (the first 500 drinks are free, so turn up early!) You’ll also be able to take a ‘buyer’s tour’ of the show with the Design Museum’s top retail buyers, as they cherry pick their favourite pieces and reveal what they’re looking for when stocking one of the world’s best museum shops.
Also for the first time since New Designers began, the show will feature a new digital catwalk that’s designed to showcase exclusive graduate fashion, textiles and costume design showreels during Part 1, plus there will be a series of shorts on show from graduates who have worked on animation, film and gaming for Part 2.
