Picture of Johanna Gill
Updated: 19 May 2016
This ten-day festival fills the Southbank Centre with a vibrant array of workshops, performances, exhibitions and a food market each year. Celebrating South Asia’s rich culture, Alchemy will showcase talent from the UK as well as from the Indian subcontinent, exploring the creativity that’s grown from our shared history. Back for a seventh year, the festival’s exciting lineup will feature music, dance, literature, film, theatres, fashion and comedy, and highlights will include famed Indian musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, a new tabla concerto by Zakir Hussain, a mix of music and politics from politically active music group Laal and homegrown music collection Asian Dub Foundation, as well as actor, comedian and YouTube sensation Mawaan Rizwan. To explore food from all regions, you can find everything from the best restaurants and most creative and talented London chefs to the most authentic South Asian street food, giving a living expression of the full gastronomic diversity of this amazing continent. With a wide range of events, Alchemy offers something for everyone and shouldn’t be missed.
