On the first weekend of April, East Village, Stratford will be hosting a non-ticketed and free festival to celebrate the dramatic and uberly notorious star-crossed romance between cheese and wine – much like a Shakespearean tragedy, just less deaths and more cholesterol. The free event, hosted in Victory Park, will bring together 25 awesome independent retailers from the cheese and wine world.
So what’s on offer? Cheese connoisseurs will be able to try posh truffle cheese from Lombardy, Italy and tangy, pongy cheddar from the UK’s Jacob’s Ladder dairy. And let’s not forget the chutneys. Oh, the chutneys! From all the traditional faves, you’ll be given the opportunity to match cheeseboards and chutneys with delicious wines from all the global vineyards taking part at the cheese festival. To top it all off, street food traders will be serving arancini, cheese burgers and oozy raclette to hungry London folk.
What’s even cooler, is that Great British Bake off contestant, Tom Gilliford will also be hosting a bunch of cheese-related demos and Q&A sessions on all things yellow. And if that’s not impressive enough, you’ll also get the chance to book tickets for a chocolate and cheese tasting extravaganza led by Master Chocolatier, Paul Wayne Gregory. SWEET CHEESUS.
The free Cheese and Wine Festival is coming to Victory Park on Sat April 1 and Sun 2. To find out more about the festival, head to the East Village’s website.
