Foodies rejoice! (Well, sort of). London’s Selfridges is opening a pop-up completely dedicated to beans. Yes, BAKED BEANS.
It’s been 50 years since the iconic ‘Beanz Meanz Heinz’ advertising slogan was first used to promote everyone’s favourite can of ‘magical fruit’. The Heinz Beanz café will be taking over Selfridges Foodhall for four weeks and will be serving up a load of dishes inspired by student favs like beans with crispy bacon, beans with ham hock and beans with scrambled egg. Bonus – you can add extra cheese to them all. NOM.
You’ll also be able to get your hands on a beany limited edition ‘Beanz Meanz Heinz’ can, decorated with artwork featuring different takes on the famous slogan. If you’re a proper bean nut, you’ll also be able to nab a limited edition (and personally signed) can of beans by Maurice Drake, the super smart advertising copywriter who came up with the slogan back in 1967. Only 50 of the cans are available, so be quick!
The Beanz Meanz Heinz Bar is open from March 27 to April 23. Dishes cost £3. It’s open between 9am and 7pm Monday to Saturday, or 11.30am to 6pm on Sundays. The Limited-edition ‘Beanz Meanz Heinz’ cans are up for grabs in the Selfridges Foodhall at £2 each and the 50 Maurice Drake collectable cans will be sold on Wednesday April 5. Collectables cost £10 and are limited to one sale per person.
