Boyds Wine Week Dinner
A glass or two from a good bottle of wine can put a special touch to an evening with friends and family, which is also what Boyds Grill & Wine Bar thinks. To celebrate the country’s wine, they are hosting a special evening with a delicious four course meal accompanied by a selection of the very best wines to match, from the rare English Pinot Noir to Nyetimber’s award winning English sparkling wine.The four course meal allows you to sample some of the finest dishes they have on offer. The meal will include a selection of cured meats from Trealy Farm and Sipsmith gin cured salmon, Daikon and buttermilk sorbet. The main course with welsh lamb hogget rump from Anglesey will make mouths water, not to mention the desert – a steamed syrup pudding.
Bottling the Bubbles at Hambledon Vineyard
Where would our excuse for an English Wine Week be if the Romans had not introduced the wine to Britain nearly 2000 years ago? Luckily they did. In honour of the occasion, Hambledon Vineyard have come up with the exciting event, Bottling the Bubbles. For two days only, you have the opportunity to see them bottling their English Sparkling Wine after an exclusive guided tour. See exactly where the wine is grown and get a behind the scenes view of the unique bottling process, that only happens once a year. During the full tour of the vineyard, you will be able to enjoy stunning views and glorious sunshine, before stepping into the winery to end the tour in the best possible way – with a glass of their award-winning Classic Cuvee and your very own bottle to take home.
Dedham Vale Vineyard Celebrations
Don’t miss your chance to celebrate Wine Week by indulging in some of the country’s best wine. Dedham Vale Vineyard will welcome you with a whole week of celebrations, special offers and events. The week will kick off with a classic car rally and wine tasting event, where you’re invited to sample the vineyard’s wine whilst admiring classic vehicles from tractors to TVRs. There will also be a pop-up tea shop and bar and a BBQ beside the lake for a perfect start to the weekend. The week will finish off with a 5k and 10k run, where runners can take part in a series of wine tastings whilst supporting Daisy & DIPG Brain Cancer Research.
Denbies Wine Estate
Since Denbies Wine Estate planted its first vineyard in 1986, the family owned company has became one of the largest wine producers in the UK. Competing on an international level, they have won multiple gold awards for sparkling wine, the first ever gold for an English rosé wine and recently an international gold for Denbies Noble Harvest Dessert wine. To celebrate English Wine Week, the vineyard is offering a variety of events. Enjoy the early summer evenings with an outdoor Vineyard Train Tour, where you’ll find yourself at the top of Ranmore enjoying one of the most spectacular views of the vineyard, as well as sparkling wine and canapés before indulging in a three course meal in the Gallery Restaurant. Cheese lovers are invited to join a guided walking tour through the wines, followed by a tasting of four wines and local cheese in the heart of the vineyard.
Meet the Winemaker at Le Vignoble
During this edition of English Wine Week, Le Vignoble is coming back with its most popular event. Welcoming a selection of English winemakers to showcase their wines, they offer the best of the best, including Duncan from Sharpham, Adrian from Knightor, Sam from Camel Valley, Kim from Polgoon, and Rebecca from Furleigh Estate, who will all introduce their wines. Including a tasting and talk about the wines, this event allows you to meet and learn from the people that make them. Based at the historic Royal William Yard, Le Vignoble also offers over 250 different wines, champagnes and liqueurs from all over the world and all of their wines are available by bottle to enjoy at home.
Fizz and French Wine Tasting at Furleigh Estate
Over 22,000 vines grow on the south facing slopes of Furleigh Estate’s 85 acres of vineyard, lakes and grazing land, surrounded by woodland. The modern vineyard and winery uses Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier to produce their classic sparkling wines. Furleigh Estate invites you to a Fizz and French Wine Tasting Evening to celebrate English Wine Week. After an aperitif and canapés, Mark Banham of Morrish & Banham will introduce a flight of the very best English fizz followed by some exciting French wines. Organised by Carol Pitcher, the event aims to raise money for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and their Great Wall of China Challenge in October. Head over to the vineyard for an enjoyable evening, supporting a worthy cause.
Breaky Bottom and Wiston Estate Wine Tasting – The Clash of the Titans
This event is the perfect opportunity for all wine connoisseurs to meet two legendary winemakers and to learn from them. With over 40 years of English wine production experience, Peter Hall from Breaky Bottom is a master of his craft and will talk you through his award-winning and delicious sparkling wines. The second legendary winemaker will be Dermot Sugrue from Wiston Estate, who has been in charge of making wines at the vineyard from its first vintage and whose strikingly clean, dry and complex style of wine is comparable to some of the best Champagne makers. The evening will be led by compère Henry Butler of Butlers Wine Cellar.
Raising awareness of British wine around the country, Albury Vineyard is also taking part in English Wine Week with a variety of events both at the vineyard and across Surrey. The week will start with the vineyard opened for tastings of not only their sparkling wines, but the new vintage of their award winning Silent Pool Rosé. On the bank holiday they will be running an English Wine bar at the Surrey County Show offering some of their best wines. They will also offer tastings at Hawkin Bros. Fine English Wines, based in the courtyard at Secrett’s Farm Shop. The week will end with a vineyard tour and tasting, celebrating the best wine the country has to offer.
English Wine Week will take place from Monday 28 May until Sunday 5 June 2016.
