The Best Pub Gardens in Manchester

Picture of Emma Lavelle
Updated: 12 April 2017
Rain or shine, once the temperatures creep into double figures, Manchester’s residents flock to their nearest beer garden to enjoy an al fresco pint. There’s many pubs and bars across the city that boast outdoor tables, but these are the very best pubs for grabbing a spot in the sun. A word of warning, you may have to fight for a seat.

This ancient pub at the edge of Didsbury Village is located on the edge of Fletcher Moss Gardens, making it the ideal location for stopping for a pint after a stroll in the park. Set back slightly from the main road, a huge garden sprawls in front of the pub, offering a large green space for both diners and drinkers. Sit with your back to the road and admire the beautiful old pub building as you sip on your pint in the sun.

Dukes 92

Dukes has always been one of Manchester’s most popular beer gardens, being the original spot that attracted flocks of people to Castlefield for a post-work drink by the canal in the sunshine. During the summer months, the large terrace is always packed with people eating and drinking, especially since the addition of the outdoor food service offering a variety of grilled food. We recommend booking a table if there’s a large group as Dukes is always busy!

The huge patio overlooking the canal is an amazing sun trap in summer, welcoming crowds of co-workers who retreat here after the working day is done to relax on one of the picnic benches and enjoy the view of the canal barges sailing past.

If you’ve ever walked past this pub, you’ll know that’s its always busy, especially in the height of summer. There’s a good reason for that; Sinclair’s has one of the largest beer gardens in the city (and serves some of the city centre’s cheapest pints). Officially known as the Shambles Square, this busy beer garden is in fact shared with the Old Wellington pub next door, offering a secondary bar when the queues reach out of the door.
