The birthplace of Anne Boleyn and one of the most stunning Jacobean properties in England, Blickling Hall and its vast surrounding gardens are managed by the National Trust. Just 20 minutes’ drive north of Norwich, near the Norfolk coast, Blickling is in the heart of the county and has plenty of fantastic places to stay, with a range of period properties to suit all budgets and needs.

A grand Grade II-listed B&B in the centre of the historic market town of Aylsham, Black Boys Hotel is a well-loved pub, bar and restaurant. The attractively furnished, eight ensuite bedrooms come in traditional period style but include all the mod cons. You’ll be well fed in the pub, with menus that cater for a wide range of tastes – go for a sumptuous bowl of oysters on date night or an incredible roast on a Sunday. Dogs are welcome to join you if you enquire in advance.

This lovely 17th-century pub and renovated coaching inn is perfectly located within the Blickling Estate, just next to Blickling Hall – so you really won’t find a spot closer than this. You’ll be well catered for thanks to the real ales and great British pub food on site, including a juicy burger menu and famous Sunday roast. Then it’s to bed in one of the four double ensuite bedrooms, all decorated in the National Trust heritage colours. The Bucks Arms also runs fun events such as Thai food nights and a good old pub quiz, so be sure to ask for details when booking.

Nothing says Norfolk like a trip to the Cromer coast. This Grade II-listed house sits right on the seaside, only a 20-minute drive south to Blickling Hall. But the coaching inn has roots that go as far back as the 17th century. Bright, crisp rooms are available to book in a variety of sizes, furnished in modern comforts but with a nod to the rich past of the property. And the location in Holt – only a 20-minute drive to the Blickling Estate – makes it an ideal base for exploring the coastline.
