Think Bournemouth and, undoubtedly, the beach, Oceanarium and pier come to mind – but the seaside town also boasts plenty of spa and wellness retreats in which to spend a relaxing few days. From classic clifftop hotels to an eight-bedroom townhouse, here are the best Bournemouth hotels with spas.

The concept behind the eforea Spa and Health Club at the Hilton spa hotel in Bournemouth is ‘emerging brighter’. And you certainly will with one of its facial and body treatments (such as hot stones, freestyle or deep tissue massages) or a ‘relax and glow’ therapy involving a salt glow followed by a back massage. The rooftop bar has great sea views and cocktails – try the signature Bournemouth pier martini.

2. The Connaught Lodge

The location is just a short walk from the city centre but it’s not hard to get away from it all at this classy hotel up on West Cliff. The hot tub and sauna at the adjacent Connaught Hotel and Spa are free and there’s an 18m (59ft) indoor swimming pool next to which you can relax in a wicker lounger. The Lower Gardens are nearby, where you can enjoy a relaxing stroll or a round of minigolf.

The Riviera certainly lives up to its name with beautiful views across Bournemouth Bay from its location in Alum Chine – a chine being a deep and narrow ravine cut by a watercourse running steeply to the sea. Alum Chine runs down to the beach and has tropical gardens facing the sea. The leisure club at Riviera Hotel has a pool, bubbling spa bath and relaxation room in which you can chill before heading for a beauty treatment, or relax after a gym session or swim.
