Explore Fashion And Style Around The African Continent

Picture of Johanna Gill
Updated: 30 March 2016
Explore fashion and style in four cities around the African continent at the first major UK exhibition dedicated to contemporary fashion in Africa at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. Featuring Casablanca in Morocco, Lagos in Nigeria, Nairobi in Kenya, and Johannesburg in South Africa, Fashion Cities Africa focuses on the style choices of individual ‘fashion agents’ from each city, such as designer, photographer, or blogger. Revealing the diversity that exists across the continent and even within single cities, the exhibition aims to provide a snapshot of fashion practices in specific cities and gives an introduction to the stories behind the style. It includes a wide range of apparel, from couture to street style, alongside images, films, and sounds that evoke the drama, creativity, and dynamism of the cities. Come along and be inspired by African designers, and join a vibrant community programme including fashion shows, music, dance, and workshops, as well as young people’s activities, talks, and debates.
