Portishead Releases Political Cover Of Abba Classic 'SOS'

If ABBA’s 1975 single tackled heartbreak in a decidedly cheerful manner, this cover brings on all the darkness Portishead could muster (and, as we know from their previous output, that’s quite a lot). Featured in the soundtrack to the recent movie High-Rise, it is the band’s first record since ‘Chase the Tear‘ (2009). The music video, as sombre as you’d expect, sees singer Beth Gibbons stand motionless against a black background, and ends with a quote from the recently murdered British MP Jo Cox: “We have far more in common than which divides us.”
