Vanessa Power the founder of Avenir Magazine truly believes in nurturing young, fresh talent and does so by giving a voice to those in the creative realm. Avenir Art Auction is the first of its kind to implement the stepping stones for artists exposure, but we are already looking forward to many more of the same calibre.
Marine Tanguy is one of the youngest and most influential art dealers and gallerists of her generation. With an impeccable eye for seeking and representing budding artists, Marine takes them under her wing with the promise of a fluttering career in the art world.
The art market and, in particular, art auctions can be baffling to the outsider; this is where Vanessa’s auction endeavour is pivotal in levelling the playing field of supporting artists in the early stages of their career. ‘When grooming anything emerging; an artist, a singer, a poet, or even a business nothing happens over night – everything takes time.’ It is a daunting world for young artists to gain credibility amidst the more established. The dog-eat-dog world of art is a risky one, so much so that Marine would only put her artists forward to auctions she was curating or in charge of. However, with Vanessa and Marine on your side and the introduction of Avenir Art Auction it is becoming more attainable for less credited artists to make a name for themselves.
To quote Marine ‘an auction is a great way to highlight that the artist has a following of buyers, but also to attract new ones. Indeed while a buyer may come for two artists he knows, he will also encounter some he didn’t know.’ The Avenir Art Auction is giving the opportunity to emerging artists who haven’t had work auctioned by Sotheby’s (except Nikolas Ventourakis.) Vanessa states ‘not only does it look great on their bio, it shows the growth and further prospects of the artists which will surely pave the way for more supporters, media and galleries if they are unrepresented.’
The optimisation of the auction’s catalogue has a leading role to play in the artists recognition. Vanessa publishes her own art magazine and therefore has designed the catalogue. Marine believes ‘Vanessa has a real taste and eye for design. The current catalogue for this auction is wonderful – this definitely helps with sales and press. Each detail counts.’
Money raised from the auction will go towards funding an art project with a specific focus on emerging talent; allowing artists and arts organisations to thrive and achieve success using their talent and creativity.
Vanessa Power’s idea became a reality thanks to the support of The Groucho Club, Sotheby’s, Daniel Ford International and the committee members; Marine Tanguy, Kate Bryan, Greta Bellamacina, Julia Royse and Niru Ritman.
