Announcing the Manchester International Festival 2017

Manchester International Festival, the city’s biennial festival of arts, culture and music is back! This year’s festival will celebrate a decade of MIF, presenting exciting new works across a broad spectrum of niches from June 29 to July 16. With the full line-up having been announced mere hours ago, we thought we’d share our highlights of this year’s programme. Tickets are now on sale for members and will be available to the general public on March 10, 2017.

What Is The City But The People?

The festival will kick off with a live catwalk elevated about Piccadilly Gardens where members of the public will present a self-portrait of the city entitled What Is The City But The People? The parade will be accompanied by live music from Graham Massey.

New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes ..

The iconic Manchester band New Order are teaming up with visual artist Liam Gillick for a series of intimate shows at Old Granada Studios. A synthesiser ensemble will accompany the band as they reinterpret their classic songs upon a stage which Gillick will transform into a fully immersive set-up.

True Faith

Manchester Art Gallery will host this retrospective of New Order and Joy Divison’s legacy, calling upon a collection of world-renowned artists to create new works directly inspired by their influence. Films, posters, album covers and music videos from both band’s illustrious histories will also be on display.

What If Women Ruled The World?

Emulating the cult film Dr Strangelove but with a feminist twist, this ground-breaking performance entitled What If Women Ruled The World? places women in charge and explores the outcome. Each night of the performance, 11 different women (including professional actors, scientists and politicians) will congregate on stage to discuss a current world crisis and what they would do to solve it.

Party Skills for the End of the World

This fully immersive show will teach you all of the essential and non-essential skills that you should need if the world suddenly ended. From making balloon animals and creating the perfect Martini to building a fire and skinning rabbits, this innovative performance will leave you feeling both entertained and prepared.

Manchester Street Poem

Bringing to life the stories of Manchester’s homeless population, Karl Hyde and Rick Smith from Underworld will present an audiovisual performance. The walls of the venue will be covered by words while a soundtrack recorded all around the city is broadcast in the space, creating a fully immersive experience.
