Sutton Coldfield is a close-knit community near bustling Birmingham, surrounded by the beautiful English countryside. This charming town is filled with a mix of interesting things to do and see. Check out the activities we think every traveller should do when in town.

1. Sutton Park National Nature Reserve

The expansive Sutton Park is a main attraction of the Sutton Coldfield area, with no less than 2,000 acres of beautiful landscape to explore. The park is made up of many different ecosystems, from wetlands to marshes, woodlands, heathlands and several separate lakes. Nature truly is all around in this beautiful park. There are trails that are great for biking, jogging, and nature walks, as well as an assortment of different wildlife to wonder at.

2. Artifex

The Artifex gallery sells an eclectic collection of different arts and crafts. The gallery displays hand-made furniture, painting, jewelry, glassware, ceramics, sculpture, metalwork, woodwork, lighting, mirrors and clockwork. One floor has their collection of paintings from nearly 18 different artists, while the other floor holds furniture and other pieces from artists based all over Britain.

3. Gracechurch Shopping Centre

The Gracechurch Shopping Centre is conveniently located in the middle of town and has everything needed for that bout of retail therapy. There are over 75 stores here, ranging from fashion favorites like Topshop and H&M to the likes of River Island and Marks & Spencers. There are also some great dining options that allow visitors to grab a bite to eat after working up an appetite while shopping.

4. Under Pressure Espresso

Under Pressure Espresso

Enjoy a relaxing afternoon and a strong cup of coffee at Under Pressure Espresso. This independent coffee shop is a local favorite for hanging out with friends, reading a book or newspaper, and a productive place to study or do work. They use imported Ethiopian coffee from a famous roaster found in London, an assortment of Canton Tea, and scrumptious hot chocolates to boot. Under Pressure also sells delicious sweets that are freshly baked everyday.

5. Sutton Arts Theatre

Sutton Arts Theatre

This Sutton Arts Theater has been an important part of the Sutton Coldfield community since 1944. The theater company puts on about seven different plays a year from all different types of genres, while also hosting some traveling companies and plays. The box office offers coffees during the matinees and cocktails, wine, and beer during the night shows, making it a great place to meet local culture vultures too.

6. New Hall Valley Country Park

Another great park found in Sutton Coldfield is the New Hall Valley Country Park. Slightly smaller then Sutton Park, New Hall Valley is a picturesque park with plenty to do. There are two different playgrounds as well as a great picnic area for families and friends to come and enjoy a fun and relaxing afternoon outdoors. No matter what the season, New Hall Valley is a beautiful place to visit.

7. The Mitchell Centre

The Mitchell Centre is a collection of boutiques and artisan shops found on the edge of town. The eclectic collection of stores that sell everything from bridal fashion to wood-burning stoves goes from interior designers to lingerie, ceramic, musical instruments, and bathroom art boutiques. The centre also holds the Farmhouse Bistro, one fine eatery to fuel up at.
