Featuring major names such as Robin Wright, Uma Thurman and Helen Mirren, the Pirelli Calendar 2017 fully challenges the status quo, rebuking the idea of polished perfection in favour on un-photoshopped women, many of whom are aged 40 or above. True to Lindbergh’s signature style, the calendar was shot in black and white. Within the pages, some of the world’s most famous actresses pose candidly, providing a welcome contrast to their usual stylised appearance on magazine covers.
The move follows on from last year’s calendar, shot by Annie Leibowitz, which featured the likes of Amy Schumer and Serena Williams. For this year, the authentic, no-frills approach follows on from a ‘Real’ issue by British Vogue and the establishment of the #nomakeup selfie by all famous celebrities. It seems that fashion might just be ready to stop peddling fantasy and embrace the magic of realism instead.
“The Pirelli calendar reflects our Group’s industrial tradition: pioneering innovation to stay ahead of the game. This is the philosophy that has taken Pirelli to the forefront of the industry globally.” said Marco Tronchetti Provera, CEO of Pirelli.
The annual hype is in part thanks to the fact that the calendar is only circulated to select clients, meaning that you’ll have to be satisfied with these sneak peaks below.
