Another sign that TV has overtaken cinema came last night when the trailer for Stranger Things 2 dropped during the Super Bowl. It’s usually film promos that are the talking point the morning after, but now instead, everyone is wondering just what’s in store for the young residents of Hawkins, Indiana.

The second season of Netflix’s monster hit has been in production for a while, but we had no idea when the trailer would be released. We also had no clue exactly when the series would return to screens, but we got answers to both questions during the short teaser.

Clear your diaries for Halloween 2017, and prepare to join the boys (and Eleven) for another mystery which will almost certainly be drenched in 80s nostalgia.

It looks like the gang will be tackling all manner of nasties this time around, with a Close Encounters of the Third Kind nod in the trailer, as well as the sight of the guys in full Ghostbusters get-up.

We already have a full list of episode titles, and know that the second series will take place over the course of nine instalments.

Newcomers Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery will join the returning cast. Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin will all reprise their roles as the young adventurers, alongside Winona Ryder, David Harbour and Charlie Heaton.

Millie Bobby Brown will also be returning as the mysterious Eleven, who is now (apparently) part of the team.
