Celebrating the eighth edition of the coastal contemporary art festival, Whitstable Biennale presents this year’s theme of ‘The Faraway Nearby’. Inspired by Georgia O’Keefe’s evocative description about calculating physical and psychic geography, the festival brings you a wide range of art across the seaside town. With work from new additions to the festival, Alice Butler, Matthew Herbert, Mikhail Karikis and many more, they aim to bring you both real and imagined journeys to introduce the concepts of time, place, culture and identity. Whitstable Biennale will be showcasing spectacular art shows from spoken word to rap, mini chapbooks, films, concerts and readings, providing a little corner of art for everyone. The venues also offer an obscure setting, with some exhibitions being held in boatsheds, roller rinks and ice cream parlours. It’s a spectacular event that helps to re-imagine Whitstable with these fantastic multi-sensory performances.
