The actor stars in the adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s classic novel, in the role of a young man who falls in love with the mysterious and sinister Rachel (played by Rachel Weisz). Watch above as Sam Claflin and director Roger Michell explain the character.

The film hinges upon the relationship between brash young Philip Ashley and his cousin’s Italian widow Rachel—one fraught with menacing ambiguity. Indeed, there are doubts throughout about whether or not she poisoned the cousin, and is manipulating Philip. Both Sam Claflin and Rachel Weisz’s deliver strong performances, and the movie in general manages to capture all the mystique and tension of the novel, while adding an emotional edge. My Cousin Rachel is out in theaters today.
