New Year’s Eve is officially the biggest celebratory night in the calendar year, but how on earth do you make a decision on where to go in a city as big as Birmingham? We’ve done the hard work for you and whittled the list down to 10 of the best events on 31 December to make your difficult decision that little bit easier…

Ice skate into the new year

Birmingham‘s outdoor ice skate rink (pictured, above) – along with the big wheel – has relocated to Eastside City Park this year and is now perfect for all weather conditions, thanks to its all-new roof! On New Year’s Eve, there are extended opening hours until 1am, with skates available up to 12am and again from 12:15am. Use the break to head outside and catch the fireworks lighting up the Birmingham sky. On site, you’ll also find a brand-new food court and various rides to keep the whole family entertained.

The Night Owl’s All Nighter

The Night Owl is an intimate live music venue and soul & retro club based in Digbeth, the city’s creative quarter. On New Year’s Eve they’re hosting a northern soul, mod and Motown all nighter with the club spinning some of the greatest tunes spanning over a multitude of decades from 9pm-6am. It’s just good people dancing to good music; you know it makes sense. Tickets are available here.

📍 17 Lower Trinity St, Birmingham, UK

Snobs

Now 45-years old, Snobs is one of the city’s best and most established nightclubs if you’re in to all things alternative. Despite moving from its original location a few years back, the club is stronger than ever and now holds a larger capacity which means their parties are much bigger. This year, Snobs will be spinning the best indie and retro anthems from 10:30pm-4am, and there are a limited number of £5 early bird tickets on sale here.

New Year’s Eve Gala at Symphony Hall

For a tradition like no other, you’ll want to head to the Symphony Hall‘s New Year’s Eve Gala! This sophisticated event touches on the classical side of things with the likes of ‘Rule, Britannia!’ and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ performed by a collection of the best orchestras. Tickets, starting at £24.50, can be purchased via thsh.co.uk.

📍 Broad St, Birmingham, UK, +44 121 780 3333

The Rainbow’s massive street party in Digbeth

Digbeth‘s most prominent promoters The Rainbow Venues are hosting a huge street party across a number of areas this New Year’s Eve. Some of the city’s biggest collectives from garage and house to grime and drum & bass come together to throw a massive bash and help you roll in the new year in the right way. Tickets are available via Skiddle.

Watch fireworks from the best (warm) vantage point in the city, Rofuto

There are a number of vantage points in Birmingham but this is by far our favourite one – and it’s out of the cold too! Rofuto is one of the city’s best fine dining restaurants and offers authentic Pan-Asian cuisine, rather good cocktails and stunning views of the city to boot. On New Year’s Eve they’ll be hosting a five-course meal and cocktail evening, with the added bonus of all NYE guests receiving a 50% off voucher for January bookings. Take a look at their New Year’s Eve menu and book immediately.

Bottomless Bingo at The Button Factory

It’s a match made in heaven – unlimited alcohol and bingo. Head to The Button Factory in the Jewellery Quarter for Bottomless Bingo, a fun and quirky take on the classic game, all with a dash of bottomless alcohol in the mix. Once you’re done with the bingo, Button Factory DJs will be spinning the best tunes to see you in to the new year. What could be better?

📍 25 Frederick St, Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, UK, +44 121 236 4653

The Sky Bar’s Venetian Masquerade Ball

Now seen as somewhat of an annual tradition, The Sky Bar’s Masquerade Ball is a rather sophisticated affair that everyone should experience at least once! Held in the lofty bar at Resorts World, this event is bookable now and includes a complimentary Venetian mask, glass of champagne, cocktail and canapés throughout the night, while entertainment includes live music, a saxophonist and a top DJ to take you in to the early hours of 2018.

Propaganda’s Prohibition NYE party

Held at the O2 Academy every Friday, Propaganda is a bit of an institution in Birmingham. So much so, that their New Year’s Eve parties are often up there with the best in the city. This year’s theme is of a prohibition style, with a return to the hedonism of the roaring 1920s on offer. All you need to do is pop on your most glamorous vintage attire and head down for a royal knees-up.

Hare & Hounds New Year’s party

Last but not least, the Hare & Hounds New Year’s Eve party is often referred to as stuff of legend. Taking place over its main bar and two upstairs music venues, this year sees Heritage vs House Sounds of Birmingham spinning the tunes in venue 1, with Killer Wave vs Paid in Full in venue 2. One of the most eclectic musical billings in the city this NYE, if you like a right old mix of music you’ll love this. Pick up your tickets fast.
