A whole country on Airbnb? Yes, you can now literally rent the entire country of Sweden on the site – here’s how and why.
In Sweden, things are a little different. There’s this little thing called allemansrätten. It’s basically a concept and constitutional right allowing any Swede the ‘freedom to roam’ – in other words, it permits anyone the right to walk, cycle, camp, and access any land without a trouble in the world. Of course, private property is the major exception to that rule (#arrested).
What may seem like a fantastic PR stunt is actually very true. So that the entire world can take advantage of this amazing concept, the lovely Swedes have listed their entire country on Airbnb!
This isn’t the first time the country has used such an incentive to get travellers in, either. Last year agency Ingo (in association with the Swedish Tourist association) created a special phone number that allowed any and everyone in the world to contact a random Swede, to chat about their country!
So, what’s on offer? There are nine places to choose from, ranging from fabulous, lush forest retreats in Varmland, to ocean-cliff views near Skuleskogen National Park. Oh, and some cities are included too!
Best gimmick in the world? We think so. Book your Airbnb here!
