In Sweden, breakfast traditionally doesn’t revolve around much more than a very important cup of coffee and perhaps a sandwich, or some crisp bread. These days, however, things are changing, and in Malmo the concept of brunch is really taking off. While the diner-style fry-up may never make a real impact here, you will find plenty of other options for the most important meal of the day. Read on to find the best places in Malmo to enjoy a cup of coffee alongside healthy brunch and breakfast eats.

1. Rosen Bar and Dining

Restaurant, European

Considered one of the best brunch spots in Malmö, each Sunday Rosen serves up a massive buffet, with everything from cold cuts to hot dishes and desserts. You can also order classics, such as eggs Benedict and eggs Florentine, as well as made-to-order omelettes. There are two seatings – at noon and at 2PM – and reservations are highly recommended.

2. Lilla Kafferosteriet

Cafe, Coffee Shop, Swedish

A proper local café, Lilla Kafferosteriet serves up plenty of delicious Swedish pastries, along with various breakfast items and sandwiches in a warm and charming atmosphere. The coffee here is particularly good, while they also cater to the lactose-intolerant.

3. Noir Kaffekultur

Cafe, Contemporary, Healthy

Hip, eco-friendly and serving up some unusual choices alongside their excellent coffee, Noir Kaffekultur is one of Malmö’s favorite breakfast spots. The outdoor seating area is particularly popular, offering ample opportunity to people-watch as you enjoy your morning coffee or lunchtime snack.

5. Boulebar Drottningtorget

Cafe, Restaurant, Contemporary, French

If a lazy weekend brunch is your thing, then Boulebar is the place to go. Le Brunch, as it’s called, is exactly what you’d think: French, with a mix of classic omelettes, waffles, croissants, and other French breakfast fare, along with mouth-watering desserts and phenomenal pastries. Once you’ve finished stuffing yourself, try your hand at boules, or perhaps some table footy.

6. Favorite Roast

Cafe, Swedish, Coffee

They might open a bit late but it’s worth holding off your breakfast for a seat at Favorite Roast – if only to try one of the many types of coffee they offer. Everything served comes from micro-roasters, local stone-oven bakeries, or their very own kitchen. Here freshness is a priority and taste is a given.

7. Uggla Kaffebar

Coffee Shop, Swedish, Vegan, Vegetarian

Uggla Kaffebar is a real local haunt with an owl theme and coffee sourced from top micro-roasters. It’s cozy inside, with outdoor seating in the warmer months, and the food is eco-friendly, with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The pastries are particularly delicious.

8. Kaffebaren på Möllan

Cafe, Swedish

While Kaffebaren serves food all day, it offers an especially great breakfast, and its coffee has been named the best in town by regional newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet. The atmosphere is more like an Italian coffee bar than a Swedish café and it’s always packed – so prepare to scramble for a seat.

9. Fyn

Cafe, Vegetarian

A favorite among vegans and vegetarians, this organic café serves breakfast daily and has an excellent, and very popular, brunch menu on the weekends. Whether you’re here for breakfast, brunch or just a quick cup of morning coffee, be sure to try some cake – the carrot cake in particular is delicious.

10. Cafe Number 6

Cafe, Coffee Shop, Contemporary, Swedish, Coffee

Definitely leaning towards hipster, Cafe Number 6 is cool and funky, with an interesting décor and some very hearty Swedish breakfast sandwiches, as well as delicious pastries, cakes and muffins. Their baristas are top notch, and they serve up literally dozens of different types of coffee – which means you’ll get just the right fuel for the day ahead.
