The season for rooftop bars has begun with warm summer weather and Stockholm’s wonderfully long sunny evenings. In a city with building regulations preventing highrises from tarnishing the cityscape, these rooftop bars offer exceptional waterfront views, cultural landmarks and some even have pools. Opening hours range from lunch to late evening and nightclub hours.

1. Stockholm Under Stjärnorna

SUS is the top-ranking rooftop bar and park 47 meters above Stockholm’s streets. The park concept is central to Stockholm Under Stjärnorna with a total area of 1200 square meters. Mornings see yogis on the terrace and the rest of the day brings street-food vendors, football fans, moviegoers to the rooftop cinema and those looking for a long drink while they lounge in the sun. It’s been dubbed the complete rooftop experience by the experts on Takbarer.

2. Urban Deli 9th Floor

The rooftop facility at Urban Deli on Sveavägen 44, is open seasonally. Urban Deli 9th Floor combines an art gallery space with the rooftop bar experience. Drinks, food, music and a sculpture park with 360-degree views of the city.

3. Dramaten Terrassen

Popular with Stockholmers, Dramaten Terrassen is the roof terrace bar over the entrance to the iconic theatre. It is the quintessential see-and-be-seen venue in Stockholm’s posh East Side with views over Nybrokajen marina and the picturesque Strandvägen road. With only 100 seats, reservations are recommended, and remember the dress code. They serve lunch, too, so you have double the chance to see the white marble stones with glittering gold decorations, which highlight the elegance of the building that stands opposite the Royal Palace.

5. Tak

This rooftop park on the 14th floor is a leisure area in the heart of downtown Stockholm offering morning yoga, street food vendors and DJ sets for nights of fun under the evening sun. The Asian fusion bar boasts 360-degree views over the whole city. Tak serves both Nordic and Japanese cuisine, wine, beer, cocktails and sake. Sunny Thursdays and Saturdays there is a live DJ.

6. Kungliga Operan Rooftop Bar

The Royal Opera has two rooftop terraces each with splendid views of the waterfront and the palace. Guldterrassen is the one over the main entrance of the opera house. It serves a light fare, and the highlight is a well-designed atmosphere with DJs creating a soundscape. Strömterrasen is more of a restaurant, which serves both lunch and dinner. On the weekends look for its summer nightclub events.

7. Lydmar

A small, luxury boutique hotel in a gorgeous historical building tucked away by the National Museum and the Grand Hotel on the waterfront on Blasieholmshamnen. Its proximity to the Modern Museum of Art is evident in the contemporary art display and styled interiors. Great food, great ambiance and wonderful light coming through its high windows. The rooms are lovely as is the friendly staff. Lydmar Hotel brings its boutique hotel vibe to the terrace bar with great views over the water, the palace and Old Town combined with excellent food and drinks. They serve lunch but have been known to host club nights and great DJs as well.

After a beer-garden, folksy feel? Mosebacketerrassen is the spot for you. A huge venue with views over lake Mälaren, Old Town, and parts of the south side, the terrace is always full of happy sungazers. And if live DJs aren’t enough their open-air concerts might entice you.
