It’s One of the City’s Best Festivals
Girona is known as ‘The City of Festivals’ as it holds so many throughout the year, however without a doubt, the Temps de Flors is one of the best. Held each May, the festival features an array of flower and plant-based installations set up across the city, particularly in the Old Town. Not only is it a chance for you to see some incredible talent in floral art, but it’s also a great way to get to know the city, the sights and attractions.
It Puts You in the Mood for Summer
Held towards the end of spring, the Girona Flower Festival will certainly put you in the right frame of mind, ready for the summer months of June, July and August to begin. The atmosphere is always jovial, with both locals and tourists alike enjoying the floral displays, taking photos and exploring the backstreets of this historic city.
It Will Bring Out Your Green Fingers
There’s no doubt you will leave the festival feeling inspired to plant and create your own floral blooms. This is the perfect place to get inspiration for your garden or learn some tips from local flower growers and artists.
You Get to Explore Some of the Hidden Corners of the City
The best way to discover the various floral installations is to follow the Temps de Flors festival map. Some of the installations would be impossible to find without it, as they are hidden within the most fascinating corners of the city. Imagine flower-filled ancient Arabic baths, secret underground cave tunnels in bloom or a law firm’s office covered in petals. The installations will also take you inside some of the city’s best museums, you can either browse while you’re there or save them for another day.
The Installations Get Better Every Year
Year after year the residents of Girona aim to make their installations bigger and better than the last – more colourful, larger or more creative, you won’t be disappointed. Some of the displays in previous years include flowers made into tea bags, dangled into giant tea cups, flowers made into woodland creatures and blooms cascading down the cathedral steps.
You Will Also be Able to Hear A Capella Music
The flower festival is also held at the same time the International Festival of A Capella Music, also in Girona, meaning that you can enjoy the flowers, whilst also being entertained by musicians from around the globe. A cappella is one of the most widely spread and well received styles of music, where participants create the background music with their voices only – no instruments are used. This year will see many more acts taking part.
