Surrounded by scenic countryside a short drive from the island’s south coast, this former dairy farm makes for a wonderful romantic getaway. The 20 rooms of the family-run property combine oodles of traditional charm with a stylishly modern update, while a chic freeform swimming pool provides a serenely bucolic spot in which to cool off. An excellent restaurant incorporates plenty of local produce and extends to a lovely pine-shaded terrace for romantic candlelit dining.
Surrounded by nothing but fields and greenery on the eastern tip of the island, for couples looking for a rustic retreat away from it all, Sant Joan de Binissaida is an excellent choice. It occupies a beautifully restored 18th-century farmhouse that is still part of a working farm that includes sheep and horses grazing in the neighbouring pastures. This boutique property has just 12 rooms, each named after a composer and split between the main building and a converted barn. There’s a lovely outdoor pool, a fine-dining restaurant and lots of shady footpaths for wandering hand-in-hand between the ancient olive trees. It is also set up for romantic rural weddings.
An adults-only hotel with 18th-century origins, the Hotel Rural Biniarroca used to be a dairy farm before it was converted into these quaint romantic lodgings. Think magenta bougainvillea climbing whitewashed stone walls, secluded gardens brimming with well-tended plant life and absolute peace and tranquillity. A lovely green mosaic-lined pool provides somewhere to cool off, while the restaurant’s excellent cuisine is all locally sourced. The bar also features a particularly impressive menu of gin and tonics to help you unwind.
Set overlooking Menorca’s gorgeous sweeping bay of Cala Galdana, this swish and colourful adults-only hotel certainly features some romantic vistas. Artiem Audax also boasts one of the most impressive spas on Menorca, if not the Balearics, for couples to get pampered à deux. A fabulous rooftop infinity pool also really takes full advantage of the views, as do the guest rooms that feature Jacuzzis with plenty of room for two.
This luxury hotel, converted from a traditional 19th-century Menorcan farmstead, is one of the island’s finest examples of boutique rustic-chic. The property is set in a series of low-rise whitewashed buildings with plenty of wonderful vantage points overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in the distance – one from its stylish infinity-edge pool that also features countryside panoramas. For a real treat, and maximum privacy, couples should plump for the Pool Cottage boasting a private plunge pool set in a beautiful secluded garden.
Jardi de ses Bruixes (meaning ‘dandelion garden’) occupies a traditional Menorcan townhouse right in the centre of the capital’s pretty Old Town. It combines some lovely original architectural details with a warm, inviting atmosphere and tastefully stylish decor. Its 16 rooms are bright and beautifully finished, all with deep soaking tubs and deluxe bathrooms. All rooms also feature wood-burning stoves for romantic snuggling in the winter. Guests can take breakfast in the charming courtyard under orange trees, enjoy a soak in the luxurious basement spa or climb to the lookout tower with 360° vistas over the picturesque surroundings.
This former 16th-century palace is hands-down one of the most luxurious places to stay on the island. Service is attentive and personalised, the rooms brimming with high-end amenities and its restaurant world-class. A luxe spa is housed in an ancient grotto, while their outdoor pool is heated all year round. The setting, on the edge of Ciutadella’s beautiful old town with views over the harbour, also scores top marks for romance.
