Summer is one of the best times of the year to enjoy festivals in Madrid. There’s beautiful weather and an array of live music acts heading outdoors so you can party al fresco. Here’s a guide to what’s on and who’s playing this summer in Madrid.

Black is Back

June 17-18, 2017

R&B lovers should be excited for a whole weekend in Madrid dedicated to urban and soul sounds. The Black is Back Festival takes place at Conde Duque and features bands like Vintage Trouble, The Lucilles, William Bell and Marta Ren & the Groovelvets. Ticket prices start at €35 for adults and €15 for those with a youth card.

June 22-24, 2017

If rock or heavy metal is your thing, this is your festival. Following its huge success in the UK, The Download Festival will take place at the Caja Mágica in Madrid, before heading to Paris. Bands including Linkin Park, System Of A Down, NOFX, The Cult, Suicidal Tendencies and Deafheaven are all set to appear. Tickets, starting at €65 for a day pass, are available on Live Nation.

MulaFest

June 30-July 2, 2017

Not just a music festival, this event taking place at IFEMA also includes street food, tattoo stands, a motorcycle show, live theatre, body painting, art, comics and much more. The line-up of music is yet to be released for MulaFest, but expect some big names. Daily passes start at €15 and three-day passes at €40.

MAD COOL

July 6-8, 2017

With a name like MAD COOL, this festival is clearly pegged to be one of the hippest events happening this summer season at the Caja Mágica. Besides picking up a Best Major Festival nomination at the European Festival Awards, they also have some seriously cool headliners like Green Day, Foster the People and Foo Fighters. Other bands on the line-up include Wilco, Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams and The Lumineers. Tickets start at €69 for one day and €150 for three days.

Festival de Fado Madrid

June 30-July 2, 2017

Celebrate one of Portugal’s greatest art forms right here in Madrid at the Teatros del Canal: fado music. Featuring artists such as Raquel Tavares, Gisela João and Camane, the Festival de Fado will be a special way to experience Portuguese culture. Plus, more events will be taking place including photography and drawing exhibitions honouring Portuguese artists. Tickets are available here.

DCode Festival

A one-day festival packed with some serious music, this festival will take place on the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Featuring bands like The Kooks, Band of Horses, Milky Chance, Carlos Sadness and more. There are also special tickets available for DCode kids and families. Tickets start at €42 are available on Ticketmaster.

Noches de Botánico

June 22-July 29, 2017

Don’t miss the award-winning festival Noches de Botánico, featuring Gypsy Kings, Jamie Cullum, Anastasia, Tony Bennett, Las Orishas and more over a five-week period. An eclectic outdoor experience, all the concerts will take place at the Real Jardín Botánico de Alfonso XIII.
