If you’re craving a good burger while in Valencia, you don’t have to head for the fast-food giants. Local restaurants serve up the best burgers in town, whether you’re looking for an American-style feast or vegan organic burger perfection. We’ve listed our recommendations for Valencia’s very best burger joints.

1. Yecla 33

Restaurant, American, Spanish

This burger bar near the university area is a local favourite. Its menu of burgers, burritos and hotdogs is consistently good and features some curious offerings such as the donut burger, the foie gras burger and the ‘Grandiosa’ – a heart-stopping double bacon cheeseburger. You can choose your meat, bread and toppings to customise every burger to your own taste. Plus, their vegan menu is surprisingly long and varied.

2. Berny's Burger Valencia

Restaurant, Spanish

The house special at Bernys Burger, Valencia.

If burger cravings hit while you’re sightseeing in the Old Town, this modern burger joint is the perfect stop. Their burgers are big, very tasty and freshly made, and there’s a great choice of craft beers to go with them. Plus the friendly staff are happy to explain the menu and tell you exactly what they think makes a burger great. The brick-walled interior is simple but welcoming, and they also have a couple of nice tables outside where you can enjoy your burger in the sun.

3. The Vurger

Restaurant, Vegan

Vegan burgers and fries

In the bohemian El Carmen district, partygoers and students flock to The Vurger, a popular vegan fast-food operation which was formerly housed in a food truck. Now they serve their selection of well priced and freshly-made burgers, juices and homemade desserts in their light, bright dining room, which often has a queue out of the door.

5. Route 66 Valencia

Restaurant, American

Valencia’s American study-abroad students can often be found in this bar run by American expats, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. The bar has a lively atmosphere and friendly, chatty staff, drinks offers and – most importantly – some seriously good American food. From chilli cheese fries to huge burgers (including one called the ‘triple Texas bypass’) this is a place to indulge and have fun.

6. Big Mama American Takeaway

Hot dogs, wings, fries and great burgers can all be found at this much-loved local fast-food joint in the university area, which stays open all night on weekends. Their slogan is ‘we are not gourmet, we are burgers’. Don’t miss the enormous Big Mama Burger with their special house sauce and fries, which has to be the ultimate indulgent late-night feast.

7. Saona

Restaurant, Spanish

Not a dedicated burger place, but great if you’re looking for a gourmet option. There are some great burgers on the menu at Saona, a modern, small chain of restaurants in Valencia. Choices include the Black Angus beef burger with black garlic and sundried tomatoes, a tuna burger with lime and coriander mayo or the more locally-flavoured Iberico rib burger, all made with fresh, local ingredients. The relaxed, airy dining room and friendly staff make this a perfect place for a night out with friends.
