Poprad is nestled into the foothills of the High Tatras mountain range – it’s a great a base camp for skiing and hiking, and is also home to thermal pools, as well as Aqua City Poprad, one of Slovakia’s largest water parks. If you’re planning a trip, here’s where to eat, drink, and sleep in Poprad, Slovakia.

Where to eat

If you’re heading to Poprad to take advantage of hiking or winter sports in the High Tatras, you’re sure to end the day hungry. Luckily for you, Slovak food is traditionally heavy, so you’ll have no problem filling up on classics like grilled meats, potato wedges, dumplings, and hearty soups. Spend a couple of hours refueling in the stylish Fabrika Restaurant to prepare for your next day on the slopes or trails. Fabrika offers a large, well-cooked rump steak, a flank steak, pork cutlets, or grilled chicken to amplify your protein intake. Sides like dumplings, couscous, and grilled veggies round out the meal. Don’t leave without trying their amazing chocolate cake for dessert!

If meat isn’t your thing, you’ll find outstanding vegan and vegetarian foods at Lahodnosti. Dining at Lahodnosti feels like dining in your grandma’s house, and the staff are very friendly as well. They offer an always-changing ‘Happy Menu’ featuring a soup plus a main dish. You can also choose to add one of their raw desserts; their strawberry tarts and chocolate brownies are delectable, especially with an espresso.

Where to drink

With a population of just under 60,000 in the Poprad area, there are enough patrons around to keep several pubs, breweries, and wine bars in business year round. If beer and a pub vibe is what you’re after, head to Egidius Brewery, an easy going place with lots of local options on tap and a billiards table. Slovak cherry beer is a special treat, especially on warm summer days.
