Kaliningrad, the Russian refuge in Central Europe and one of the 2018 FIFA World Cup host cities, is a fascinating place to visit. Its convoluted history reveals itself on every corner. The city’s architecture is more than charming, and there is enough to see and do there to satisfy any kind of traveller. As a result, the explorations might stretch out, the walks might end up being too long, or the hostel discussions too engaging and, for those reasons or others, you might find yourself in need of something to eat late at night. Should that ever happen to you, Culture Trip comes to the rescue – here are the seven best places for late-night eats in Kaliningrad.

1. Britannica

Gastropub, Pub, Restaurant, Contemporary, British

Britannica is an English pub in the very heart of Kaliningrad, serving delicious food and a wide selection of beers until the very early hours of the morning. Britannica is an enclave of familiarity in the ocean of profound Russian-ness and an excellent place to finish a pub crawl.

2. Zötler Bier

Restaurant, Bar, Gastropub, German

Zötler is one of the many establishments in Kaliningrad that are flirting with German cuisine. Zötler is located in near proximity to Victory Square, the very heart of modern Kaliningrad, so you won’t have to go out of your way. Pop by late at night for some German sausage and house beer imported all the way from Germany.

3. Borsch and Salo

Restaurant, Russian

If you happen to sport a late-night craving for some more Slavic flavours, head straight to Borsch and Salo. Located in a shopping centre right on Victory Square, you will pass by it on your way home – why not pop in for a quick borscht fix? Borsch and Salo is open until midnight on weekdays, and until 2 am on the weekends, so you have time.

5. Khmel

Gastropub, Restaurant, Pub, Russian, European

Khmel combines the mixture of influences that formed Kaliningrad itself. They brew their own beer and serve the classics of Russian cuisine. They are also open until 1 am, which qualifies them as a late-night eat. Affordable, delicious and always on the way – what else could one wish for?

6. Tetka Fisher

Restaurant, German

Tetka Fisher is an elegant German restaurant slightly removed from the city centre, located by one of Kaliningrad’s picturesque ponds (though one that you will probably not see if you embark to Tetka Fisher late at night). It’s a cosy place with gourmet cuisine that will feed you until midnight on weekdays and until 2 am on the weekends. Bon appétit!

7. Pivovar

Bar, Gastropub, Pub, Restaurant, German, Russian

Kaliningrad’s locals love their beer and wurst. Pivovar is a small, cosy bar serving both – and brewing the beer in-house. On top of the German sausages, they serve some classics of Russian cuisine as well, to please the more conservative palates. They are located fairly centrally and will feed you until 2 am on any day of the week.
