A typical Polish beer pub, the Piwiarnia Warka in the heart of Tarnów is a perfect place to sample local hospitality and ambience in a bar with cheap beer and a happy vibe. The pub takes its title from the beer of the same name, Warka, which is available on tap and in various varieties. The food menu mixes traditional Polish dishes with European-style options and some pub grub. You can try the Polish tatar (raw beef with an egg, mushroom, gherkin, onion served with butter and bread) or the zapiekanka piwosza (Polish bread with cheese, tomato sauce, salami and spicy jalapeño peppers or the national treasure, pierogi ruskie (Polish dough filled with potato, onion and cottage cheese). Burgers, salads and ice cream are also on the menu. Live sports are shown, and there is an outdoor beer garden on the main square during the hotter months.

2. Leprikon Irish Pub

Located in the heart of Tarnów’s Old Town Square (known as the Stary Rynek) sits this lively and authentic Irish pub. The Leprikon offers a little taste of Dublin, Cork and Belfast to the streets of Tarnów. The drinks menu features Guinness, of course, as well as Irish whiskeys aplenty, while the food menu boasts a hearty Irish breakfast. Live sports are shown here, including the Polish Ekstraklasa, German Bundesliga and English Premier League football. The bar has free Wi-Fi and stays open until 2am at weekends. The pub turns into an Irish festival of green on March 17 each year – the closest thing Tarnów locals will get to a St. Patrick’s Day in their town. Leprikon also has regular live music events.

Pub Basteja is located inside the ancient medieval walls of Tarnów, just a short walk from the Old Town Square. There is indoor and outdoor seating in a traditional Polish-style setting with brick walls and a dimly lit bar. When the Polish national team play football, this is a perfect place to watch the match with the bar awash with biało i czerwoni (white and red) colours. The drinks menu includes a wide range of tap and bottled beers, colourful cocktails and, of course, plenty of shots, mostly involving vodka. Please note the bar is closed on Sundays and has limited opening hours on Saturdays except when there is a special event or occasion. The food menu includes pizza as well as typical Polish dishes.

5. Przepraszam Środowiskowy Klub Studencki

Przepraszam Środowiskowy Klub Studencki is a Student Club in the heart of central Tarnów that attracts the younger local people and, of course, students. It has late opening hours at weekends and attracts a lively crowd. There are often themed nights, football matches shown and live music, check with Przepraszam’s Facebook Page for the latest events. The bar also has the best selection of beers in Tarnów, with a huge range of bottled craft beers as well as international beers. The location is in the main Old Town Square.

6. Pub Śródmieście

Pub Śródmieście translates as simply ‘Central City Bar’ and is well located on Plac Kazimierza Wielkiego in downtown Tarnów. With comfortable seats, brick walls, a modern makeover and welcoming staff, this is one of the coolest hangouts in the city. Expect cheap pub food, Polish craft beer, a chilled-out vibe and a variety of young and old clients. Please note that Sunday opening hours are shorter and that the entrance is via the passageway known as Pasaz Tertila.

Chili Pub is a relaxed venue in the heart of Tarnów’s charming Old Town Square. The bar has lively staff, modern seating and a cosy outdoor beer garden where smoking is permitted. The drinks menu takes its inspiration from a mix of Polish, Cuban and Mexican tipples, including vodka, rum and tequila. Live football is shown in the evenings only, as the venue opens at 6pm daily. There are also a range of local and international bar snacks available.
