1. Tao By Zen

With an enviable location on the banks of the Vistula River, just a stone’s throw from the arched steel cables of Krakow’s self-proclaimed Love Bridge, Tao By Zen offers a medley of nigiri salmon rolls and shrimp hosomaki, all in a cool environment. The piece de resistance is surely the al fresco dining space, which really does live up to the establishment’s Zen moniker with its green adornments and timber chairs during the warmer months.

2. Youmiko Sushi

Anime-esque murals adorn the whitewashed walls and curious little Japanese trinkets pepper the shelves of this tiny little place in Kazimierz. Known for their creative mashups of veg and fresh fish, and colourful presentation of the various roll selections, the staff here are veritable masters of sushi-making. Youmiko Sushi is also perfectly located for some Asian flavours before exploring the historic Jewish Quarter of the city.

3. Pod Norenami

Vegans and veggies in search top-quality sushi need look no further than Pod Norenami on Krupnicza Street. A fully-fledged Asian fusion restaurant, the place has a tome of a menu. The first pages are dedicated to all things hosomaki and uramaki, with variations that include fillings of cucumber, radish and mushroom. All plates are served with a side of wasabi and pickled ginger, and the entire follow-up range of stir fries and noodles is totally meat-free!

The medley of bamboo casing and traditional shōji paper walls that dominates the interior of stylish Edo restaurant is enough to evoke the vibes of rustic, rural Japan. Oh, and all of that’s backed up with a specially curated list of sakes from the homeland, too.

Oozing style and class from each of its meticulously-crafted sushi and sashimi platters, the fine-dining Asian fusion joint of Nago Sushi & Sake is the place to go for some of the most refined rolls in the city. There are large sushi sets that include a huge variety of different fish, from whitefish to bluefin and yellowfin tuna. There are sets for veggies, and even Asian takes on tartar. Meanwhile, the interior is suave to say the least, with reflective marble floors and bespoke furnishings.

7. Urara Sushi & Shabu Shabu

Sat right in the heart of the Krakow Old Town area, Urara Sushi & Shabu Shabu is a relatively new addition to Krakow’s line-up of Asian street food joints. It’s got hiyori sets packed with fresh salmon and avocado kokoro meals. It’s got sashimi platters and large sharing plates complete with dragon rolls. There’s also a great range of hotpots on offer, with both meat and veggie choices to go for.

8. Nine Kitchen Sushi

The culinary philosophy that governs the creation of everything from the uromaki to the hosomaki at Nine Kitchen is all about seasonality and freshness. Ingredients for the rolls are sourced locally and in accordance to availability, meaning the menu regularly changes to reflect what’s new in the markets. There are sashimi platters and veggie options to boot, and the restaurant has a prime location on the corner of one of Kazimierz’s busiest streets.

9. 77 Sushi

The kitchen at 77 Sushi is headed up by a group of chefs who profess a real passion for the culinary output of the Far East. Their menus cover everything from classic maki sets with salmon and whitefish to more adventurous wakame seaweed salad sides and shrimp fries. The success of 77 has taken it right across Poland, and now this outlet in Krakow is matched by others in Gdansk and Poznan.

10. Genji Premium Sushi

Offering something of a more casual eating atmosphere than many of the swish Asian joints on this list, Genji Premium Sushi sits on the edge of bustling Dietla Street. There, it creates tasty plates of sashimi salads and baked softshell crab, all backed up by the classics: California rolls; tuna maki; shrimp tempura. There are also some more interesting additions – just check out the Philadelphia Cheese rolls.
