When you think of countries popular for leading in fashion, Malta more than likely doesn’t spring to mind first. With major chain stores predominantly located in the capital of Valletta and the more populated large towns of Sliema and St Julians, the smaller towns boast plenty of independent shops. Here are some of the best fashion boutiques Malta has to offer.

Chelsey’s Exclusive Wear

Stocking exclusive Italian wear for women, this boutique has customers from all over the island for its quality and range of clothing. Always having an eye for fashion, owner Loraine first fell in love with Cannella and knew from her first glimpse that this was a perfect brand for sophisticated women. Extending her range to include brands such as Gil Santucci, Babylon, Crazy Wool and Biancoghiaccio, Chelsey’s has a Facebook following of over 7,000. Also stocking genuine leather products and exclusive costume jewellery, this boutique brings popular, high-quality Italian brands to Malta at competitive prices.

Charles & Ron

Charles Borg and Ron Van Maarschalkerweerd are mainly self-taught designers, although Ron has a background in tailoring skills learned in his childhood years from experienced family members. Now Malta’s leading fashion house, Charles & Ron opened its flagship store in Valletta in 2015. With their hearts lying in designing high-quality clothing and bags with a distinct Mediterranean feel, they strive to ensure Maltese culture is fundamental in what they do. Embracing the traditional Maltese art of filigree in their latest designs, their stunning autumn/winter collection 2017/18 debuted at New York Fashion Week.

Gilda, based in Sliema, is a boutique specialising in unique to Malta designer clothing. Focusing on collections from Italian Edas, Canadian Frank Lyman and Spanish Cabotine and GN designs, this boutique is frequented by some of Malta’s top TV personalities. With an eye for detail and exquisite tastes, Gilda stocks only the best for their clientele.

Opened in 2014, the Rosemarie Abela Fashion Studio and Boutique has rapidly gained an established clientele and a flurry of new customers alike. Still in her early twenties, Rosemarie continues to expand her collection of her personally designed clothing and specialises in bespoke occasion wear for weddings and VIP events, uniforms and chunky knitwear, and the boutique is also a stockist of exclusive fabrics designed and produced in Italy. Two new collections are produced annually as the brand of Rosemarie Abela continues to strive for improving quality and service.

Well-known across the island for its unique wedding wear, Rêverie deservedly has a Facebook following of 14,000 and an array of five-star reviews. Sole stockists in Malta of True Bride dresses, direct from the UK, designed by Nicki Flynn and popular for not only being made from high-quality materials, but also intricate beading and detailing. Dessy bridesmaid dresses, manufactured in New York, are also only available directly in Malta through this bespoke boutique.
