Amalfi, the eponymous town on the fabled Amalfi Coast boasts a central location at almost the midpoint along the coastal road. It is a good base for an extended visit as many hotels offer parking, and there is regular ferry and bus service to other Amalfi Coast towns.

Rooms are simple with ceramic tiled bathrooms and air-conditioning. There is an elevator and a real plus is the hotel’s own garage which will transfer your luggage to your room. Even if you are not a breakfast person, it is worth your while to wake up early and start your day on the elaborately frescoed dining room.

This quaint hotel is well located near Amalfi’s main beach and cathedral. The structure dates back to the 1200s so keep that in mind if you love all the mod cons. That said, the air conditioning is efficient and the WiFi strong. The rooms are a little on the small side, but the sea facing rooms have balconies and are decorated with ceramic tiles and beautiful carved and painted beds.

The hamlet of Pogerola is less than 4 miles uphill from Amalfi but might as well be a different world. You will be enchanted by the village feel and sweeping views that surround Villa Maria. The B & B echoes this simple charm with modern furnishings in soft colors, wood beamed ceilings and handcrafted majolica tile floors. This is the perfect base for hiking enthusiasts to explore the nearby “Valle delle Ferriere” and Path of the Gods.

Morning walks into town. 🇮🇹☕️⛪️
